We collect and permanently store billions of individual measurements every month with our Mervis cloud services. (over 6 bln/month as of June 2017). There are many more important measurements missing still and mostly because of the difficulties of the installation or communication of the sensors or meters. These problems can very ofter be overcome by using modern IoT solutions such as LoRa or Sigfox based sensors.
Both above mentioned standards represent wireless, country-wide networks (think mobile phone network) and the devices are usually battery powered.
