  * **Communication via public IP addresses and forwarded ports**:
    * If there is no other option, at a minimum, restrict which IP addresses can connect to the specific port.
    * Additionally, block any communication after repeated unsuccessful connection attempts.

===== What to Use =====

  * **Communication via [[en:mervis-proxy:00-start|Mervis Proxy]] and similar technologies**:
    * This is the preferred method as it creates a secure, encrypted tunnel from the controller to the cloud without requiring a public IP.
  * **VPN (Virtual Private Network)**:
    * A standard secure method for creating a private network over the public internet.
